Nuclear engineering specialist Nuvia Limited has been awarded a contract for the retrieval and processing of Intermediate Level Waste (ILW) from the chute silo at Magnox Limited’s Berkeley site.
The contract has been awarded under a new ILW framework being operated by Magnox, to which Nuvia is appointed. Nuvia is supported on this framework by Rolls-Royce, NES and the Shaw Group. The Framework will last up to ten years with a total value up to £300million, and it covers the retrieval and packaging of ILW at Magnox sites throughout Great Britain.
This initial contract on the Framework pertains to the retrieval of miscellaneous activated components (MAC) from the silo and packing them into shielded containers, and involves Nuvia Limited, NES and Shaw Group.
Radioactive Waste Management and Decommissioning are two of the areas in which Nuvia specialises. Nuvia has carried out numerous radioactive waste management projects for Magnox and other UK customers, and will apply this experience to Magnox’s present and future challenges. This new ILW contract follows Nuvia’s earlier retrieval and packaging of miscellaneous activated components at the Magnox Trawsfynydd Site.
