Development of UK R&D Directory

The NDA is investigating how to develop a directory of UK organisations that are carrying out Research and Development (R&D) related to nuclear decommissioning.

A recent meeting of the newly re-constituted NDA Research Board concluded that, while a significant amount of work was being funded through a variety of mechanisms, the full extent of the R&D being carried out within the UK in this area was unclear. Although a number of organisations, including the NDA, publish annual technical reports, there is no single publication detailing the UK’s overall nuclear decommissioning R&D capability.

A project has therefore been started to identify organisations currently undertaking R&D on any aspect of nuclear decommissioning, and to establish the nature of their capability.

Dr Darrell Morris, the NDA’s Research Manager, said:

“The development of such a directory will raise awareness of the UK’s capability in this field. It will also support knowledge-sharing and encourage collaboration between organisations with an interest in decommissioning.”

The development of the directory is being carried out by specialist consultants Nuclear Technologies.
