Horizon signs global nuclear charter

WANO, of which Horizon is a member, shares global operational experience between members to ensure nuclear power stations are operated to the highest possible safety standards.Signing the charter pledges Horizon’s support for WANO activities including data sharing, peer reviews, technical support missions and exchange visits, workshops, seminars, leadership courses and expert meetings.Alan Raymant, Chief Operating Officer at Horizon, said: “By signing the voluntary charter, we are demonstrating our commitment to best-practice and safety. This is another step forward in developing our capabilities and learning from the global experience of others as we prepare for the operation of Wylfa Newydd in the 2020s.”
Duncan Hawthorne, President of WANO and non-executive Horizon board member, said: “Horizon’s signing of the charter is clear evidence of how the organisation is developing and growing its capability and knowledge on all fronts.”
Last month Horizon appointed Greg Evans as Operations Director. Greg, a former Magnox Site Director, is responsible for the development of Horizon’s operational capability, helping prepare the organisation for generation in the first half of the 2020s and will lead Horizon’s activities with WANO.
