The NDA with Government approval has terminated the contract of the Cavendish Fluor Partnership to decommission the Magnox reactors as it has become apparent that the quantity of work required was underspecified in the original tender and so the assessment was invalid. It has also at the same time settled claims against it by Energy Solutions and Bechtel in relation to the 2014 award.
The Cavendish Fluor Partnership will continue to operate the contract for a further two years (the notice period) while the NDA puts future contract arrangements in place. The Government has also set up an inquiry led by former National Grid CEO Steve Holliday into the original procurement. The announcement was made in a written statement to the House of Commons.
